Similar to a skylight filter, a UV filter is commonly used to protect the front element of your lens. Select the correct sized UV filter, screw it on and leave it in place in order to protect your lens from scratches, dust and moisture. A UV filter also helps to combat haze on bright sunny days, leading to cleaner looking pictures in many situations.
